Dr. William L. Rutledge is a licensed physician with over four decades of clinical and academic experience in medicine, surgery, and healthcare education. He earned his M.D. from Meharry Medical College in 1979, following a B.S. in Pharmacy from Texas Southern University. He completed his general surgery residency at Meharry Medical College from 1980 to 1984.

Dr. Rutledge is currently the Director of Education at Arkansas College of Health Careers, a position he has held since 2013. He also serves as the Medical Director of Student Health at Shorter College, continuing in that role since 2021. In addition to his administrative work, he has maintained a general medical practice in Little Rock, Arkansas since 2009.

Previous roles include Medical Director appointments at Forest Park Medical Clinic, Cumberland Medical Clinic, and Pine Street Free Clinic. He has also served as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and held adjunct faculty roles in biology.

Dr. Rutledge has served on the Arkansas State Medical Board, among others, and has participated in public health research focused on cancer education and healthcare access in underserved populations.
