Thomas A. Shea

Dr. Thomas A. Shea III is a law enforcement, security, and investigation professional with experience across policing, private investigation, higher education, and public-sector security leadership. His background includes service as a police officer and supervisor, private investigator, security consultant, and university professor. He is a U.S. military veteran who served during Operation Desert Shield/Storm.

Dr. Shea holds a Doctor of Science in Civil Security Leadership, Management, and Policy, a Master of Public Administration, and a Bachelor of Science in Administration of Justice. He is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP), a licensed New Jersey private detective, and a New Jersey Department of Education–designated School Safety Specialist. His professional work has involved police supervision, internal and external investigations, risk management, security operations, emergency preparedness, and policy development.

He currently teaches criminal justice, public administration, and security-related courses at multiple universities and has served as a program director responsible for curriculum development, academic oversight, and coordination with law enforcement professionals. His teaching experience spans undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs, as well as active threat preparedness training delivered through a national training center.

In addition to academic roles, Dr. Shea provides investigative and consulting services to public agencies and private organizations, including background investigations, workplace investigations, internal affairs reviews, incident analysis, trial preparation, and expert witness services.
