Dr. Theoklis Elias Zaoutis, M.D., M.S.C.E. is a physician based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is board certified in Pediatrics and Infectious Diseases. He did his graduation from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in the year 1996. He completed his internship and Residency in Pediatrics from AI duPont Hospital for Children, Wilmington, DE. He did his fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases from The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA. He received his MCM in Clinical Microbiology at Hahnemann University, Philadelphia, PA and he completed his MSCE in Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics from University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA. He received his PhD (Medicine) from National and Kapodistrian University of Athens School of Medicine in 2014. He is an attending physician and formerly the Chair of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Werner and Gertrude Henle Endowed Chair. He also serves as Director of the Center for Pediatric Clinical Effectiveness (CPCE) Research at the CHOP Research Institute. He holds the position of Thomas Frederick McNair Scott Professor of Pediatrics and Professor of Epidemiology, at Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. His research interests include the epidemiology, prevention and treatment of healthcare acquired infections, antimicrobial resistance, and antimicrobial use. He is currently the principal investigator (PI) for a National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) contract. He is the recipient of many awards including but not limited to - Philadelphia magazine Top Doctors in 2018, Fulbright United States Scholar in 2017, Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society Distinguished Service Award in 2015, and Astellas Young Investigator Award in 2005. He serves as an Editor-in-Chief at Journal of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society. He has many professional memberships, including membership of American Academy of Pediatrics, Pediatric Infectious Disease Society, Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society/Infectious Disease Society of America Bone and Joint Infections Guideline Panel and The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He is licensed to practice medicine in the state of New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
