He completed his Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering in 1968 and his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1973 from the University of Illinois. He also completed his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in 1996 from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
