His fire service background includes service as a career firefighter and paramedic with the City of Reading, Pennsylvania Department of Fire and Rescue Services from 2001 through 2021, with duties encompassing emergency medical services, firefighting, rescue operations, and hazardous materials response. He retired from that role in January 2021.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Spadt served as Fire Chief of Lehigh Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 from 1990 to 2007 and held multiple firefighter and fire officer positions with the same organization beginning in 1981. His certifications include Certified Fire Investigator credentials through the International Association of Arson Investigators, certification under NFPA 1033 standards, and multiple hazardous materials and vehicle fire investigation qualifications.
