He then pursued his internship in Medicine from the Georgetown University Hospital at Washington, D.C., he further pursued his residency in Radiology and fellowship in Special Procedures from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He also served the military with the U.S. Army in Europe from 1969 to 1972. Currently, Dr. Zimmerman is the Emeritus Professor CE of Radiology of the Department of Radiology at the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is also a physician at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He is the member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor Medical Society. He was the recipient of the 2002 American Society of Pediatric Neuroradiology Special Recognition Award and the 2012 American Society of Neuroradiology Outstanding Contributions in Research Award. He also has numerous publications to his credit.
