He completed his A.B. in Economics in 1976 from Harvard University and then earned his B.H.B., M.B., Ch.B. in 1983 from the University of Auckland, School of Medicine. He further completed his post-doctoral training at Auckland Hospital and his fellowship at Harvard University. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
