Litigation experience includes commercial litigation, environmental litigation, personal injury, mass torts, product liability, and white-collar criminal defense. In addition to litigation practice, Robert L. Gibbs has served in leadership roles within state and national bar organizations and has participated in judicial education and court-related committees.

Education includes graduation from Tougaloo College and receipt of a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law. Robert L. Gibbs later attended the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada. Professional activities also include teaching trial practice at the Mississippi College School of Law and speaking engagements before legal, academic, and community organizations.
