He then completed internship in Medicine and Pediatrics in 1973 and residency in Internal Medicine in 1977 from the University of Virginia and the University of Virginia Hospital at Charlottesville, Virginia. He also served as a general practitioner from 1973 to 1975 at Louisa, Virginia under the National Health Service Corps. He then completed his M.P.H. in Health Services Research as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar in 1979 from the University of Washington, School of Public Health and Community Medicine at Seattle, Washington and then obtained his M.Sc. in Epidemiology as a Milbank Memorial Fund Scholar in 1981 from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine at London, England. Currently, Dr. Cummins is the Professor of Medicine at the Department of Medicine, University of Washington. Formerly, he served as the Instructor at the Department of Clinical Epidemiology and General Practice, Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine at London, England. He resides in Washington.edu
