Dr. Rebecca Tippett, Ph.D. is a demography and sociology expert with experience in applied demographic research, population estimates, projections, and data analysis. She earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from Duke University, specializing in social stratification and demography. Her doctoral research was funded by the National Institutes of Aging.

Dr. Tippett currently serves as Principal of Data Distilled, LLC, a demographic consulting firm, and as Chief Accountability Officer at the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation, where she manages the utilization and governance of data across the organization.

From 2010 to 2013, Dr. Tippett was a Research Associate at the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia. In that role, she developed and implemented statistical methods for county population estimates and state and county population projections. She also analyzed federal and state data to identify demographic and social trends in Virginia and worked with the Census Bureau through the Federal-State Cooperative for Population Estimates and Population Projections.

From 2013 to 2022, she served as the Founding Director of Carolina Demography at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she managed the translation of Census Bureau and other demographic data into information for local governmental agencies, nonprofits, and businesses.
