Dr. Rajesh Bhagat, M.D., is a highly experienced and accomplished specialist in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, with a distinguished career spanning several decades. He received his medical education from the University of Delhi, India, earning his M.B.B.S. in 1983, followed by a Diploma in Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases (DTCD) and a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) in Tuberculosis & Respiratory Medicine. He completed his internship and housemanship at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, India, followed by junior and senior residency training at the prestigious Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute (VPCI), University of Delhi, where he specialized in Tuberculosis and Respiratory Medicine. His U.S. residency training included three years in Internal Medicine at the University of Missouri Hospitals & Clinics, followed by advanced training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine as a fellow at Duke University Medical Center. He also completed his fellowship at the Saskatchewan Lung Association in Canada.
Dr. Bhagat currently serves as the Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) and a Professor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, as well as a Staff Physician at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. His career has been marked by leadership roles, including serving as the MICU Director at the VA Medical Center since 2010 and advancing through academic ranks from Assistant Professor to Professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Bhagat has been deeply involved in medical education, having taught undergraduate, postgraduate, and medical students across various institutions in India and the United States. His teaching contributions span clinical training in pulmonary medicine, internal medicine board reviews, and advanced airway management. Dr. Bhagat is also an instructor for the American Heart Association’s Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) program.
