R.H. Barry Sample, Ph.D., is a forensic toxicologist with over four decades of experience in laboratory science, drug testing, and toxicology. He earned his B.A. in Chemistry from Indiana University and his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from Indiana University. His career began in pediatric chemistry at Indiana University Hospital before advancing into roles directing toxicology and anti-doping laboratories.

From 1991 to 2000, Dr. Sample served as Director of Forensic Toxicology at Quest Diagnostics, where he later held senior leadership positions in science and technology through 2021. He was Scientific Director of Quest’s forensic toxicology laboratory in Lenexa, Kansas, and also directed forensic toxicology laboratories in Brazil between 2018 and 2021. He has served as Assistant Director of anti-doping laboratories for the 1987 Pan-American Games and as Director for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games.

Dr. Sample is board-certified in forensic drug toxicology and licensed as a laboratory director in multiple states. His professional activities include service on advisory boards for the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, the Department of Health and Human Services Drug Testing Advisory Board, the National Basketball Association, and the International Tennis Federation. He continues to provide technical consulting in workplace drug testing and forensic toxicology
