He is certified in Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics. He is the Chief of the Division of Neonatology and Co-Director of the Fetal and Neonatal Institute (FNI). He oversees all of the division’s clinical, training and research efforts. He is a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of University of Southern California. He is a member of the Society of Pediatric Research, the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Perinatal Pediatrics, the California Children’s Medical Services /California Children’s Services NICU Technical Advisory Committee. Dr. Friedlich holds the Teresa and Byron Pollitt Family Chair in Fetal & Neonatal Medicine and its mission is to develop new knowledge to impact neonates with complex health issues. He also leads the Laboratory in Fetal & Neonatal Healthcare Research at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, California. His clinical interests include Respiratory failure of the newborn, persistent pulmonary hypertension and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). He has received the Western Society for Pediatric Research Travel Award from Mead Johnson Perinatal and Development Medicine Symposium; Merle Carson Lectures Southwestern Pediatrics Society First Prize; Victor E. Stork Award for continued excellence and future promise in the care of children, CHLA and the Morris and Mary Press Humanism Awards, CHLA.
