Paul Stuart Appelbaum

Dr. Paul Stuart Appelbaum M.D. is a forensic psychiatry expert witness from New York. His clinical expertise also includes general psychology, depression, anxiety disorders, adjustment disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, bipolar disorder, insomnia, mental health, mood disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, psychopharmacology, psychosis and psychotherapy. He has an active medical license from the state of New York. He is also certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He then completed his A.B. in Biology in the year 1972 from Columbia College and then earned his M.D. in 1975 from Harvard Medical School. He further attended the Harvard Law School in 1980 and the Graduate School of Public Health, University of Pittsburgh in the year 1984. He completed an internship in Medicine at Soroka Hospital in Beersheva, Israel and a residency in Psychiatry from the Massachusetts Mental Health Center/Harvard Medical School at Boston, Massachusetts where he was a Chief Resident in Legal Psychiatry. He also completed a fellowship in Mental Health Administration from the Massachusetts Mental Health Center/Harvard Medical School at Boston, Massachusetts. Currently, Dr. Appelbaum is the Elizabeth K. Dollard Professor of Psychiatry, Medicine and Law, and the Director in the Division of Law, Ethics and Psychiatry at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He also has multiple publications to his credit.
