She then earned her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology in 1980 from the United States International University at San Diego, California. Subsequently, she earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Professional Psychology in 1982 from the United States International University at San Diego, California. She then served as Registered Psychological Assistant at the Neuropsychological Development Center and the San Diego County Department of Adult Mental Health for her post-doctoral fellowship. Currently, Dr. Markel is a Clinical Neuropsychology Consultant at the Rady's Children's Hospital and Health Center, Developmental Evaluation Clinic and the Sharp Rehabilitation Center, Department of Pain Management. She also maintains her private practice in Clinical Neuropsychology in La Jolla, California.
