Currently, Dr. Childers is a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin’s School for Workers, where he combines extensive industry experience in steel, machining, metal fabrication, and plastics manufacturing with academic expertise. His teaching covers a wide range of labor and industrial engineering subjects, including steward training, bargaining, job evaluation, lean production, and incentive pay systems.

Dr. Childers has also taught Labor-Management Relations for over a decade at the Wisconsin School of Business. Recognized for his commitment to teaching excellence, he was named a UW System Teaching Scholar in 2018 and became a fellow in the UW-Madison Teaching Academy in 2019. He serves on the executive committees of both the UW Teaching Academy and Phi Kappa Phi, reflecting his leadership in advancing interdisciplinary education and faculty development.
