His military assignments included command roles and oversight of operational risk management, aviation safety, and quality assurance programs.

He holds an M.S. in Aeronautical Science with a focus on system safety from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a B.S. in Professional Pilot from Metropolitan State College of Denver. Robinson is certified as an Airline Transport Pilot and Certified Flight Instructor with additional ratings in both helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. He is a full member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society and the International Society of Air Safety Investigators.
