He completed his BS in Biology in 1979 from the State University of New York at Albany, New York and then earned his first M.D. in 1983 from the Universidad Automoma De Guadalajara at Guadalajara, Mexico and then earned his second M.D. in 1985 from the University of Maryland at Baltimore, Maryland. He then pursued his internship and residency in Internal Medicine/Geriatrics from the University of Connecticut Health Center at Farmington, Connecticut. He further pursued his fellowship in Gastroenterology/Nutrition from the Medical College of Virginia at Richmond, Virginia. Currently, Dr. DeLegge is the Chair of the Nutrition Committee and the Professor of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. Additionally he is the Medical Director of the Dietetic Internship Program, Chairman of Nutrition Committee and the member of the Dietetic Internship Program Steering Committee and Medical Executive Committee at the Medical University of South Carolina. He led a research named “Feeding in Elderly Late-Stage Dementia: The FIELD Trial” and has many publications to his credit.
