Dr. Mana Mosamma Parast, M.D., Ph.D. is a physician based in San Diego, California. She is board certified in Anatomic Pathology. She did his graduation from University of Virginia School of Medicine in the year 2002. Prior to her medical education she did her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from University of Rochester, New York in the year 1994. She also received her Ph.D. in Cell Biology from University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA in 2000. She held the prestigious Medical Scientist Training Program fellowship and completed a six month postdoctoral research fellowship and residency in Anatomic Pathology from Emory University, Atlanta, GA. from January 1, 2002 through June 2005. She completed additional clinical training in the area of Women's and Perinatal Pathology from Brig­ham and Women’s Hospital in affiliation with Harvard Medical School in Boston. She holds the position of Professor In Residence at University of California San Diego. Her clinical focus is in Placenta, Trophoblast, Stem cells, Pre-eclampsia and Stillbirth. Dr. Parast was the first to characterize palladin, a protein that associates with the actin cytoskeleton and with focal adhesions, regulating cell adhesion. This work was published in J. Cell Biol. She has developed a strong translational research program in trophoblast stem cell biology and placental development. The main focus of her lab is on the identification and characterization of human trophoblast stem cells. She is licensed to practice medicine in the state of California.
