He completed his BS in Chemistry in 1966 from the University of Miami at Coral Gables, Florida. He then completed his Masters Medical Science in 1968 from the Rutgers Medical School at New Brunswick, New Jersey and subsequently earned his M.D. in 1970 from the Harvard Medical School at Boston, Massachusetts. He also pursued his internship in Medicine and first residency in Clinical Pathology/Hematology from the Jackson Memorial Hospital at Miami, Florida and National Institute of Health at Bethesda, Maryland. He then pursued his second residency in Anatomic Pathology and third residency in Internal Medicine from the Jackson Memorial Hospital, VA Hospital and University of Miami at Miami, Florida. He further pursued his fellowship in Oncology from the Cancer Center Greater Miami and the Jackson Memorial Hospital. Currently, Dr. Villa, Jr. is the Assistant Professor of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Miami at Miami, Florida and a physician at the University of Miami Health System. He has numerous publications to his credit. He is the member of Executive Board of Liga Contra El Cancer.
