Dr. L. Catherine Brinson, Ph.D., also known as Cate Brinson, is a mechanical engineering expert witness from North Carolina. She completed her B.S. in 1985 from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Then she completed her M.S. in 1986 and her Ph.D. in 1990 from California Institute of Technology.

Currently, Dr. Brinson is the Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at Duke University and the Adjunct Professor in Mechanical Engineering at Northwestern University. Prior to this, she was the Associate Dean for Academic and Professional Initiatives and Jerome B. Cohen Professor of Engineering at Northwestern University. Further before that, she was the Secondary Appointment at Northwestern University and Visiting Professor at NIST.
