Dr. Joseph P. Varon, M.D. is a critical care medicine expert witness from Maryland. He has medical practitioner's licenses from the state of California and Texas and is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Varon completed his B.S. in 1980 from the Colegio Hebreo Sefaradi, Mexico City, Mexico and earned his M.D. in 1986 from the the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. He then pursued Internship in 1989 from the Providence Hospital/ George Washington University, Residency in 1990 from the Stanford University School of Medicine and Fellowship in 1994 from the Baylor College of Medicine. Currently, Dr. Varon is the Chief of Critical Care at United Memorial Medical Center in Houston. In addition, he is the Former Chief of Critical Care Services and Past Chief of Staff at University General Hospital. He is a Professor of Acute and Continuing Care at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas and Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He is also Professor of Medicine, Surgery, and Professor of Emergency Medicine at several universities in Mexico, the Middle East, and Europe. Dr. Varon also has appeared on National and International television and radio show with his techniques and care of patients. He is well known for his academic and clinical work in the management of acute hypertension and has published extensively on this subject. In addition, he has worked on studies related to ethical issues in acute care medicine and has several peer-reviewed publications and researches on this controversial subject. He received Nobel Prize for Medicine in 2008. He lives in Texas with his wife Sara Varon and their four children.
