Dr. Phillips completed his internship and Residency from Mount Sinai Hospital in the years 1976 and 1977 respectively. He has held an Academic position in University of Alabama at Birmingham as Associate Professor of Physiology & Biophysics and Associate Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology since 1987. Later on he served as a Professor of Pediatrics in the same institution. He deals with fetal and neonatal pulmonary medicine and diseases of such as persistent pulmonary hypertension, broncho-pulmonary dysplasia, and sepsis. He became board certified in Pediatrics in 1980 and later in 1981 he became board certified in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine by American Board of Pediatrics. He co-authored in the publication - The Role of Patent Ductus Arteriosus Ligation in Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia: Reexamining a Randomized Controlled Trial, In Press, J. Pediatr., 2009. He is licensed to practice in Alabama by the State Board of Alabama.
