He then pursued his internship in 1982 and a residency in General Surgery in 1984 from the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts. He further pursued his research fellowship in General Surgery in 1986 and clinical fellowship in Transplantation Surgery in 1990 from the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts. He also completed a course on Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy/ Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery in 1991 from the Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee. Currently, Dr. Wright is an attending surgeon at Vanderbilt University Hospital (VUH), Nashville, Tennessee and Veterans Administration Medical Centre (VAMC), Nashville, Tennessee. He is also an attending surgeon at the St. Thomas Hospital, Nashville, Tennessee. He was an assistant in surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Boston, Massachusetts for the years 1988 to 1989 and also a chief assistant of surgery at Metropolitan Nashville General Hospital, Nashville, Tennessee for the years 1990 to 1991. He has several publications to his credit. He received the Upjohn Award for Clinical Achievement and Alpha Omega Alpha in 1981 from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Medical Association, Association for Academic Surgery, American Society of Transplant Surgeons and The Southeastern Surgical Congress.
