John M. Majer

John M. Majer, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist with extensive experience in academic psychology, community-based research, and clinical practice, with a professional focus on mental health, substance use disorders, and criminal justice–involved populations. He earned a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from DePaul University, with an emphasis in Community Psychology, along with master’s degrees in clinical and counseling psychology.

Dr. Majer is a tenured Professor of Psychology at the City Colleges of Chicago, where he has taught a broad range of undergraduate psychology courses and developed curriculum in research methods and special topics in psychology. His academic career also includes long-term service as a Research Associate and Consultant with DePaul University’s Center for Community Research. In that role, his work has involved community-based research addressing psychiatric comorbidity, recovery outcomes, health disparities, and substance use treatment environments.

His professional background includes clinical assessment, psychodiagnostic testing, individual and group therapy, and program development across inpatient, outpatient, residential, and correctional settings. Dr. Majer has worked within hospitals, community mental health centers, substance abuse treatment programs, and state departments of corrections, providing services such as rapid diagnostic assessment, crisis intervention, and treatment planning.

His experience integrates applied clinical practice, empirical research, and higher education, with involvement in program evaluation, diagnostic instrument development, and supervision and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate trainees.
