John Bond Atkinson, Esq., J.D. is a highly experienced attorney with a distinguished career in insurance litigation and military service. He earned his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1972 and his J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law in 1974. Recognized as one of South Florida's top insurance defense lawyers by The South Florida Legal Guide since 2004, John has been named a Super Lawyer both in Florida and nationally since 2010. His legal practice, which spans over decades, covers catastrophic injury and death cases, coverage disputes, bad faith claims, and various areas of insurance law.

John's extensive career also includes significant service in the United States Marine Corps, where he served in various roles, including as an Officer in Charge during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and as a Judge for the Marine Corps and Navy-Marine Court of Criminal Appeals. He was also a Colonel in the Marine Corps Reserve and participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. Throughout his military career, John lectured internationally on legal aspects of human rights, terrorism, and the law of armed conflict. In addition to his legal practice, John was a managing shareholder and chair of the insurance defense group at Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell, P.A. from 1984 to 2004 before founding Atkinson & Brownell, P.A. in 2004, later renamed Atkinson, Attorneys At Law in 2016. John’s expertise and contributions to both the legal and military fields make him a respected authority in his areas of practice.
