Dr. Jeffrey Arnold Kovnick, M.D., M.S., is a board-certified psychiatrist with certifications in Adult Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Forensic Psychiatry. Since 1999, he has maintained a clinical outpatient psychiatry practice while also providing forensic psychiatric evaluations in civil and criminal matters. His forensic work includes child, adolescent, and adult evaluations, disability assessments, and independent medical evaluations conducted on referral from courts, attorneys, employers, and insurance companies. He is also a member of Park Dietz and Associates.

Dr. Kovnick previously served as Medical Director for Vista Adolescent Treatment Centers from 1999 to 2021 and held multiple academic and leadership appointments at the University of Utah, including Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Director of the Forensic Evaluation and Consultation Service, and Medical Director of adolescent and assessment programs. Earlier in his career, he provided psychiatric consultation services for Utah state youth correctional and child welfare programs.

He completed fellowships in Forensic Psychiatry at the University of Virginia and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Utah after completing his Adult Psychiatry residency at the University of Utah. Dr. Kovnick earned his M.D. from the Medical College of Wisconsin, an M.S. from Columbia University, and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Oregon. His professional experience includes publications and presentations focused on forensic psychiatry, competency, juvenile justice, and psychiatric research.
