Dr. Jay J. Przybyla, Ph.D., P.E., is a civil and forensic engineering expert specializing in transportation safety, vehicle collision reconstruction, and crash investigation. He earned his B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Brigham Young University, followed by both his M.S. and Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Utah.

Currently, Dr. Przybyla serves as a Managing Engineer at Focus Forensics, LLC, a position he has held since 2014. He leads the firm’s engineering research program and oversees all consulting projects throughout the Mountain West and Western United States while providing forensic engineering services nationwide. His prior experience includes roles as a Senior Consultant at Armstrong Forensic Engineers, an Engineer at Collision Safety Engineering, and a Research Assistant at the University of Utah.

Dr. Przybyla is a licensed Professional Engineer in more than a dozen states across the U.S. His expertise spans vehicle collision reconstruction, commercial vehicle crash analysis, roadway design and traffic controls, grade crossing incidents, intermodal facility safety, train collisions, and automotive design issues. He has conducted engineering evaluations in hundreds of cases involving driver behavior, roadway conditions, and vehicle performance.

In addition to his engineering background, Dr. Przybyla served as a police officer with Utah Valley University and as a state trooper with the Utah Highway Patrol, where he focused on DUI detection, interdiction, and accident investigation. He completed numerous accident reconstructions as part of Utah’s Multi-Discipline Accident Investigation Team.

Dr. Przybyla is also a published author in safety engineering and has taught engineering and mathematics courses as an adjunct professor. He has guest lectured at both the University of Utah and Brigham Young University on accident reconstruction and transportation safety. He has extensive experience providing expert witness testimony in both civil and criminal matters.
