Jack Leifer

Jack Leifer, PhD, PE, is a mechanical engineer with experience in engineering analysis, applied research, and university-level instruction. He is a licensed professional engineer and has earned a PhD, MS, and SB in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His doctoral research focused on nondestructive mechanical testing of integrated circuit structures.

He has served as a tenured Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Trinity University since 2009, following prior faculty appointments at the University of Kentucky and the University of South Carolina–Aiken. His teaching background spans core mechanical engineering subjects including statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, machine design, structural dynamics, heat transfer, and engineering experimentation. He has also taught specialized courses involving photogrammetry, videogrammetry, robotics concepts, and experimental methods.

His research experience includes externally funded projects supported by NASA, the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, and state research consortia, with work involving structural dynamics, thin-film structures, vibration analysis, corrosion modeling, and measurement techniques. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, and a technical book, with publications addressing mechanical testing, impact analysis, videogrammetry, and modeling of structural systems. His work has included analysis relevant to vehicle collisions, vibration transmission, and experimental measurement methods frequently examined in litigation contexts.
