Dr. Ira M. Garonzik is a board-certified neurosurgeon with extensive clinical, academic, and leadership experience. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Emory University School of Medicine in 1997, graduating summa cum laude and valedictorian. He completed his undergraduate studies in biology at The Johns Hopkins University in 1993 with general and departmental honors.

Following medical school, Dr. Garonzik trained at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, completing an internship in general surgery, neurosurgery residency, and a fellowship in functional clinical and research neurosurgery. He also pursued advanced specialty training in spinal surgery under Dr. Ziya Gokaslan. From 2004 to 2010, he served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

Since 2005, Dr. Garonzik has been Director of the Baltimore Neurosurgery and Spine Center and Attending Neurosurgeon at Sinai Hospital and Northwest Hospital Medical Center. He has held leadership roles including Director of Medical Education and Director of the Deep Brain Stimulation Program at the Lifebridge Brain and Spine Institute, and currently serves as Chief of Neurosurgery at Northwest Hospital Medical Center.

He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgeons and active in several professional societies, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the North American Spine Society.
