Dr. Godfrey Porter Oakley Jr., M.D. is an epidemiology expert witness from Georgia. His clinical expertise also includes birth defects resulting from folic acid deficiencies, including paralyzing spina bifida and fatal anencephaly. He has an active medical license from the state of Georgia and is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, the American Board of Preventive Medicine and the American Board of Medical Genetics. He completed his undergraduate education with majors in chemistry from Duke University in the year 1961. Dr. Oakley, received his MD from Bowman Gray School of Medicine in 1965 and a Master of Science in Preventive Medicine in the field of Public Health Studies (Epidemiology) at the University of Washington in 1972. He completed his internship in Straight Pediatrics from Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital and residency in Pediatrics from Metropolitan General Hospital at Cleveland. He is was a Former Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities. He served as a Medical Epidemiologist with the Public Health Service, Centers for Disease Control at Atlanta, Georgia from 1968 to 1998. Currently, Dr. Godfrey Porter Oakley Jr. is a Visiting Professor of epidemiology at the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University and has been elected to the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academy of Sciences. He has numerous publications and awards to his credit.
