Dr. Kanter is a board certified neuropsychologists in the Sarasota County area. He has an active civil forensic practice in terms of personal injury and Workers Compensation evaluations (brain injury, pain conditions, psychiatric conditions, product liability, medical malpractice). He is a licensed psychologist with an active license from Florida. He is a civil forensic neuropsychologist, double board-certified in adult and pediatric neuropsychology and the Executive Director of the American Board of Professional Neuropsychology. He is the president of Comprehensive Med Psych Systems, Inc., the largest private behavioral medicine group in Florida with a staff of 25 including psychologists, psychiatry staff, neuropsychologists, school psychologists, social workers, and licensed mental health counselors. Staff have special training in dealing with cognitive and psychiatric issues in adults and children related to ADD, LD, autism, stroke, dementia, head injury, chronic pain, Parkinson’s disease, and cardiac and pulmonary disease. He received his Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Virginia in 1987. Postdoctoral work was performed at Neuro Care, a brain injury residential program in California. He worked as the Manager of Psychology Services at Mills Peninsula Hospital in San Mateo, California. He moved to Sarasota in 1991 taking on the position of Director of Psychology for HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Sarasota (as well as Clinical Director for the Pediatric, Adult Brain Injury, and Pain Management rehabilitation programs). In 1997, he developed the position of Director of Psychology for Sarasota Memorial Hospital and created a behavioral medicine program, hiring a staff of 5 psychologists to provide services for medical inpatients throughout the hospital. He continued providing these services as he started Comprehensive Med Psych Systems in 1998, which has since branched into providing a wide variety of inpatient and outpatient psychological and psychiatric services (including more than 5 hospitals within Sarasota, Manatee, and Charlotte counties) with offices in Sarasota, Tampa, Bradenton, Venice, and Port Charlotte.
