Dr. Gavin Huntley-Fenner, Ph.D. is a human factors and safety consultant with a unique problem-solving skill set and communication style developed over 20 years as a researcher, author, educator and business consultant.  He regularly provides consumer product hazard analyses and has served as an expert witness for matters relating to risk perception, instruction manuals, warnings, labeling, safety and human development, human reaction time, and decision-making. He is an educator and certified Continuing Legal Education (CLE) provider, as well as a published author. He did his Bachelors in Cognitive Sciences fromVassar College (Phi Beta Kappa) in the year 1990. He earned his doctorate in Brain and Cognitive Sciences from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1995. His consulting and forensic projects have involved a wide variety of types of products, including consumer products, professional products, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and human behavior in a variety of environments including homes, schools, workplace and daytime and nighttime outdoor contexts. Dr. Huntley-Fenner's research and consulting employ a range of tools including literature reviews, incident database analyses, statistical modeling, experimental design, hazard and risk analyses, and specific human behavioral research methods such as surveys and human subjects testing. He is in the Department of Education Chair's Advisory Board of University of California, Irvine since 2009. He served as a member of the United States Food and Drug Administration Risk Communication Advisory Committee (2010-2014) and California's Statewide Committee on Autism and Education (2007). He is also a California Bar Association Certified Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) Provider. He is affiliated with Association for Psychological Science, American Psychological Association, Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (Technical Committee 36, Highway-Rail Grade Crossing Warning Systems), ASTM Committee: E34 Occupational Health and Safety and F15 Consumer Products and Society for Research in Child Development.
