He further completed a residency in Diagnostic Radiology and a fellowship in Neuroradiology at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Medical Center. He also served the military where he served as General Medical Officer at the United States Naval Hospital in Key West, Florida. He was honorably discharged in 1974 from the military. Currently, Dr. Murtagh is a Professor at University of South Florida College of Medicine & H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Tampa, Florida. He also maintains his practice at the University Diagnostic Institute in Tampa, Florida. He has several publications to his credit.
