Dr. Frank Alexander Scott, III, also known as Alex Scott is a supply chain management professor whose academic and industry experience focuses on transportation, logistics, supply chain management, public policy, sustainability, and safety. He is an Associate Professor and Gerald T. Niedert Professor in the Department of Supply Chain Management at the Haslam College of Business, University of Tennessee, where he has served as Director of Graduate Studies since 2024. He previously held faculty positions at Michigan State University and Northeastern University.

Dr. Scott earned a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Pennsylvania State University in 2016, an M.S. in Operations Research from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2003, and a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University in 2002. Before entering academia, he worked in supply chain and logistics roles with IBM ILOG Supply Chain & Optimization, Kenco Logistic Services, and J.B. Hunt Transport, and served as an Intelligence Analyst with the Defense Intelligence Agency.

His research addresses transportation market dynamics, safety, shipper-carrier governance, sustainability, and public policy. His publications include studies concerning truckload transportation, regulatory violations, electronic logging devices, transportation safety, environmental programs, and freight markets. He has testified before the U.S. Congress and has received research awards from the University of Tennessee and supply chain organizations.
