She earned her undergraduate nursing degree from the University of Alabama, College of Arts and Sciences in 1977, University of Northern Colorado College of Arts and Sciences in 1978, University of South Alabama School of Nursing with Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1980. She received her master's in nursing with Emergency/Trauma-Nursing from the University of Alabama – Birmingham in 1985. Currently, she is a Chief Nursing Officer at Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee, United States. She brings more than 25 years of experience in nursing administration to Alive, which includes having served in several leadership roles at Vanderbilt University Medical Center from 1988-2003. Most recently, Doehring served in patient safety and quality leadership roles in Alabama. In her position as CNO, Doehring ensures Alive continues to provide quality, compassionate care to the patients served by directing the expert team of nurses. She also worked as Director, System of Patient Safety at Infirmary Health System Inc. She has few publications to her credit
