Duane Leon Steffey

Dr. Duane Steffey, Ph.D., is a statistician with more than 30 years of experience applying statistical methods across engineering, health, environmental science, and civil litigation. His work has focused on the statistical design and analysis of studies evaluating product performance during development, manufacturing, and post-market use. His consulting experience spans construction materials, consumer electronics, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, motor vehicles, industrial tools, home appliances, and recreational equipment.

Dr. Steffey has analyzed data from engineering experiments, observational studies, surveys, accident and injury databases, warranty claims, quality audits, product complaints, and administrative records. He has also evaluated statistical issues arising in disputes involving contracts, patents, regulations, business relationships, employment matters, and environmental issues.

Prior to his consulting career, Dr. Steffey served as a tenured professor of statistics at San Diego State University, where he co-founded and co-directed the university's statistical consulting center. He also held positions with the National Research Council, directing studies related to census methodology and military systems evaluation, and with Westinghouse Electric Corporation, conducting probabilistic safety analyses for the nuclear energy industry.

Dr. Steffey earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Statistics from Carnegie Mellon University and is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association as well as an elected member of the International Statistical Institute. His publications cover statistical consulting, reliability analysis, risk assessment, engineering, medical devices, and litigation-related statistical methodologies.
