He earned his Doctorate of Medicine from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in 1987. Dr. Weir completed his medical internship at Earl K. Long Memorial Hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and went on to specialize in neurology. He completed his residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and at Louisiana State University School of Medicine. Dr. Weir further enhanced his expertise with a mini fellowship in Intraoperative Monitoring at Children's Hospital in New Orleans. He is certified by the American Academy of Psychiatry & Neurology and is also a registered pharmacist in the state of Louisiana.
Dr. Weir has held numerous prominent positions, including serving as the Neurologist, Founder, and President of Southwest Neuroscience Center and Southeast Neuroscience Center of Excellence. He is also the Medical Director of Neurology and Neurodiagnostic Services at Lafayette General Medical Center, where he has been instrumental in the development of the hospital's Joint Commission Certified Stroke Program. In addition, he is the Medical Director of Intraoperative Monitoring for both Southwest Neuroscience Center and Acadiana Intraoperative Monitoring. His teaching roles include Assistant Professor of Neurology at LSU School of Medicine, and he has extensive experience in clinical instruction across various medical institutions. Dr. Weir is recognized for his expertise in intraoperative monitoring and his contributions to advancing neurological care in both private practice and hospital settings.
