In 1989, he completed his B.S. Physics, Biochemistry and Cell Biology from University of California, San Diego. He earned his medical degree in Medicine from UCSD School of Medicine in 1993. He completed his Ph.D. in Psychosocial Aspects of Arm Pain from University of Amsterdam in 2006. Further, he completed his Internship in Surgery from Massachusetts General Hospital. He completed his Resident in Orthopedic surgery from Harvard Combined Orthopedic Residency from 1994 to 1998. He also earned his Chief Resident in Orthopedic surgery from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in 1999. He was Fellow in Hand and Microvascular Surgery from Massachusetts General Hospital from 1999 to 2000. He is Professor in Orthopedic Surgery at the Harvard Medical School since 2016. He also Professor in Surgery at the Dell Medical School, University of Texas at Austin since 2016. Since 2017, he is Professor by Courtesy in Psychiatry at the Dell Medical School, University of Texas at Austin. He currently practices at Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery.
