Dr. Pickar graduated in the year 1969from Rutgers College with Phi Beta Kappa distinction and received his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine in 1973. After completing his residency in psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine in 1977, Dr. Pickar joined the National Institute of Mental Health as Commissioned Officer of the United States Public Health Service. Dr. Pickar retired as CaptainUSPHS in 1999. Currently, David JonesPickar, M.D., is Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Dr. Pickar serves on the Psychiatry Drug Advisory Board for the Food and Drug Administration. He also practices psychiatry in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
