Dr. David Blakesley, Ph.D. is an accomplished academic and expert in technical communication, rhetoric, and writing studies. He holds a B.A. in English in 1983 and an M.A. in English in 1986 from San Diego State University, followed by a Ph.D. in Rhetoric, Linguistics, and Literature from the University of Southern California in 1990.

Dr. Blakesley currently serves as the Robert S. Campbell Chair in Technical Communication and as a Professor of English at Clemson University, positions he has held since 2010. Prior to this, he was a professor at Purdue University, where he also directed the Professional Writing Program from 2000 to 2010. He has held numerous academic appointments, including at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, where he also served in various administrative roles, such as Director of Writing Studies and Chair of Communication Across the Curriculum. With a distinguished career spanning more than three decades, Dr. Blakesley has made significant contributions to the fields of technical communication, rhetoric, and writing instruction. His expertise in professional writing and writing studies, along with his leadership in program administration, makes him a respected authority in the academic community.
