He has received the Resident Research Award from the Association of Academic Surgery in 1992, Alfred Blalock Award for Excellence in Research During Residency in 1994, John L. Sawyers Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1996 and the Joel Wilson Baker Award for Teaching in 1999 and 2000.
