Cynthia M. Rando is the Founder and CEO of Sophic Synergistics, LLC, a consulting firm specializing in human factors, ergonomics, and human safety. She has more than 18 years of experience in human factors, including over a decade at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, where she worked on interface design, ergonomics, usability, risk mitigation, accident investigation, and root cause analysis. She contributed to major initiatives including the development of the NASA Human Health and Performance Center and the U.S. government’s first application of crowdsourcing as a business model.

Ms. Rando is a Certified Human Factors Professional and serves as Vice President of the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics. Her consulting and expert witness work addresses product liability, medical device design, cautions and warnings, slips, trips, falls, and other human safety issues. She has provided assessments and testimony in cases involving injury, perception and performance, and product-related incidents.

In addition to her consulting practice, Ms. Rando has taught ergonomics and safety at the University of Houston Clearlake and advises medical device startups through the Texas Medical Center Innovation Incubator. She holds an M.S. in Human Factors Engineering and a B.S. in Psychology from Clemson University, and an M.B.A. from Northeastern University.
