He currently serves as Chair and Associate Professor in the Department of Criminology and Justice at Loyola University New Orleans. Dr. Bolden holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Central Florida, where he also earned a certificate in crime mapping and analysis.

Dr. Bolden has provided expert witness services in capital defense, juvenile certification, felony murder, wrongful conviction, and immigration defense cases in jurisdictions including Texas, Louisiana, Missouri, Alabama, and Kansas. He has testified in both district and immigration courts and contributed as an expert panelist for the RAND Corporation’s relaunch of the National Youth Gang Survey.

Previously, Dr. Bolden served as an Assistant Professor at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and held teaching appointments at Valencia College, Seminole State College, and Texas State University. His peer-reviewed publications address topics including gang desistance, social networks, and criminal behavior. He is the author of Out of the Red: My Life of Gangs, Prison, and Redemption, recipient of the 2020 Frank Tannenbaum Outstanding Book Award from the American Society of Criminology. He has been engaged as an expert since 2019 by attorneys and public defenders in multiple state and federal jurisdictions.
