Dr. Chitra Raghavan is a Professor of Psychology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York, where she also serves as Director of the Forensic Mental Health Counseling Program. She has been on the faculty since 2002 and was granted tenure in 2007. Dr. Raghavan is also a member of the doctoral faculty in both Criminal Justice and Forensic Psychology.

Her expertise centers on coercive control tactics, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, sex trafficking, and the resulting traumatic outcomes, including PTSD, dissociative disorders, and trauma bonding. She conducts forensic evaluations and has served as a court-qualified expert witness in civil, criminal, family, and parole matters. She has trained judges, attorneys, and law enforcement personnel on trauma, coercive control, and victim psychology, including programs for the New York State Unified Court System, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, and the NYPD Hostage Negotiation Unit.

Dr. Raghavan holds a Ph.D. in Clinical and Community Psychology, with a minor in quantitative methods, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, and is a licensed clinical psychologist in New York State.
