She completed her B.S. in 1962 from the Dickinson College at Carlisle, Pennsylvania and subsequently completed her M.S. in 1964 from the St. Joseph's University at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She then earned her M.D. in 1971 from the Jefferson Medical College at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She then pursued her internship and residency in Pediatrics from the St. Christopher's Hospital for Children at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She further completed her two fellowships in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Medicine at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She also completed her Graduate Studies for PhD degree in 1981 from the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Medicine at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Currently, Dr. Carwford is the Staff Neonatologist at the Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center at Camden, New Jersey and the Cape Regional Medical Center at Cape May County, New Jersey. Prior to this, she has been the Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey at Stratford, New Jersey.
