Dr. Fernandez-Pello is currently a Distinguished Professor of the Graduate School in Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. He also serves as a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the same institution.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Fernandez-Pello has held a number of leadership and faculty positions at the University of California, Berkeley. His prior appointments include serving as the Almy C. Maynard and Agnes Offield Maynard Endowed Chair Professor of Mechanical Engineering and as Associate Dean of the Graduate Division. His professional background is centered on higher education, engineering research, graduate education, and academic administration within the field of mechanical engineering.
