Carissa Byrne Hessick is a legal scholar whose work focuses on criminal law, criminal procedure, prosecutorial discretion, sentencing, and criminal justice policy. She is the Anne Shea Ransdell and William Garland “Buck” Ransdell, Jr. Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of North Carolina School of Law, where she has served on the faculty since 2016. In addition, she is the Director of the Prosecutors and Politics Project, a research initiative examining the role of prosecutors within democratic systems.
