Dr. Antony Wilks Burgess, A.C., F.A.A., F.T.S.E., Ph.D., is a highly accomplished biochemist and cell biology expert with a distinguished career in academic research. He earned his B.Sc. with First Class Honors and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Melbourne, Australia. In 2015, he also completed an M.Sc. in Astronomy from Swinburne University. Dr. Burgess has held numerous prestigious positions throughout his career, including Professor of Cell Biology at the Department of Surgery, Royal Melbourne Hospital and Western Hospital since 1988. He has also served as Head of the Epithelial Biochemistry Laboratory and Director of the Melbourne Branch of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research from 1980 to 2009. His extensive research experience includes leadership roles at The Walter & Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research and international research fellowships at the Weizmann Institute in Israel and Cornell University in the United States. Dr. Burgess is recognized for his significant contributions to the fields of cancer research, cell biology, and biochemistry.
