Her academic background includes a Master’s in Education from Athabasca University, with prior certifications in distance learning and sign language instruction.

Ms. Witter-Merithew has held leadership, instructional, and consulting roles across various institutions. From 2000 to 2017, she served as Assistant Director and MARIE Center Director at the University of Northern Colorado, where she managed interpreter education programs and federal grant projects. From 2015 to 2017, she was Interim Executive Director of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, overseeing national certification systems and association operations.

Her earlier roles include faculty positions at Central Piedmont Community College (1982–2000) and chairing the Department of Interpreter Education at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (1975–1980). She has extensive experience in diagnostic assessment, interpreter mentorship, curriculum development, and professional training, both in the U.S. and internationally. She remains active as a mentor and consultant, particularly through the IMET Program at Utah State University.
